Filmbyn Småland is gearing up – major investment possible with new cultural grant from Region Jönköping
Mariannelund, December 11, 2025
Filmbyn Småland is taking a big step in its development. The Jönköping Region ANA committee has decided to grant Filmbyn a cultural grant for 2026 – a support that enables a comprehensive investment in longer opening hours, more activities for children and young people and a strengthened cultural meeting place in Mariannelund.
"This support gives us the opportunity to really step up. We can meet the growing interest, create more jobs and, above all, offer more children and young people throughout the county the chance to explore the world of film all year round," says Ingela Nilsson Nachtweij, operations manager at Filmbyn Småland.
The regional support involves:
Because Filmbyn is now also part of Cultural rights, offers Creative school and collaborates with EC Film, the number of study visits, film projects and creative education days for schools in the county will increase significantly.
The support makes it possible for Filmbyn to welcome more meetings, conferences, summer events and corporate events, which in turn strengthens both Mariannelund and the regional tourism industry.
Based in Astrid Lindgren's filmmaking Filmbyn continues to develop its interactive exhibition where her stories and humanistic values are given new life. The initiative is in line with several of the goals in Jönköping County's cultural plan.
"We are now setting the stage for the next chapter in Filmbyn's history. We want even more people to feel that Filmbyn is a vibrant, inclusive and creative place – a natural gathering point for culture, learning and meetings," says Ingela Nilsson Nachtweij.
