Welcome to a unique and interactive exhibition at Filmbyn Småland where you step behind the scenes of the classic films that were shot here in our region. Through our unique interviews, you get to listen to stories from those who were actually involved in the filming – from actors to film crew.

Sing along: Step into our studio and sing along to Astrid Lindgren's fabulous lyrics.

Be the star of your own movie: Jump over the Hell's Gap like Ronja or get hoisted up in the flagpole like Ida.

Behind the camera: Learn more about how the movie props were made and see the real clothes from the movies.

Emil in Lönneberga

The character: Emil is the resourceful boy from Katthult who constantly ends up in trouble, even though he only wants to be well. He often has his little sister Ida by his side, who, despite her kindness, sometimes has to put up with all of Emil's antics – like when she suddenly finds herself at the top of a flagpole.

In the exhibition: Visit environments inspired by Snickerboa and the Doctor's office in the exhibition. Here you can sit at the workbench where Emil sat and carved, or get stuck in the soup bowl in the Doctor's office yourself. In the adjacent displays you will find original clothes that the actors wore in the films. Also take the opportunity to listen to our recorded interviews that give a unique insight into how it was done when they shot the films.

Pippi Longstocking

The character: Pippi is the world's strongest girl who lives in Villa Villekulla with her monkey Mr. Nilsson and her horse, Little Old Man. She is the symbol of independence and playfulness, always ready for a new prank.

In the exhibition: In our playful Villa Villekulla environment in the exhibition, you can try out the Little Old Man, find Mr. Nilsson in the lamp and try cleaning with Pippi's famous scrubbing brushes on your feet. Don't miss a look inside the showcases where Pippi's authentic original clothes are preserved. Listen to the stories about how Pippi's fantastic world was created for the screen and the challenges that were encountered during one of our largest film productions.

Ronja Rovardotter

The character: Ronja is the daughter of the robber chieftain Mattis and grows up in Mattisborgen. She is a naturalist who chooses her own path, especially after she meets Birk, the son of rival Borka. Together they challenge their fathers' enmity.

In the exhibition: Step into the rustic Mattisborgen in the exhibition and sit down at the large long table. Also get your foot stuck in the snow and meet the gnomes. You can see unique images from the filming and learn more about how the castle was created without modern technology. Through our interviews you will hear about life in the castle and the exciting days in the forest.

The Salt Crow

The character: At Saltkråkan we meet the strong-willed Tjorven and her dog Båtsman, but also the Stockholm family Melkersson with father Melker and children Malin, Johan, Niklas and Pelle, and of course Stina and little Skrållan. Together they create a timeless community full of summer adventures.

In the exhibition: Explore the nostalgic trading post from Saltkråkan in our exhibition. Here, children can play in the shop and use the classic cash register. The exhibition highlights how the right archipelago feeling was created and you can listen to memories from the filming days that captured the Swedish summer holidays in a way that no other film has done.

Nils Karlsson Pygmy

The character: Nils is a tiny boy who lives in a rat hole under his bed. He becomes best friends with Bertil, a boy who often feels lonely when his parents work. By saying the magic word "Killevippen", Bertil can also become small and visit Nils' world.

In the exhibition: To enter Nils' world in the exhibition, you have to walk under a huge bed - an experience that makes you feel small, even though the things in the exhibition are normal size. Here you get a sense of how perspectives played with us on the screen and how environments were built to create the illusion of a gnome's world. Don't forget to say "Killivippen" while pressing the nail and see if anything happens.

Bullerbyn – The Noisy Village

The character: The children of Bullerbyn live a safe and idyllic life on three farms in Småland. Their simple everyday life and strong friendships have become the mental picture of a happy childhood.
